Hypothyroidism is the most common reason for needing thyroid support. Once testing has confirmed hypothyroidism, thyroid medication can be used to replicate normal thyroid functioning.

The two thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) can both be used in thyroid support therapy. The structure of the pure T4 and T3 is identical to the naturally produced hormones by the thyroid gland.  T4 is the inactive form of the thyroid hormones and is converted to active T3 in the body.. For some patients, a combination of  T4 and T3 works best.
